Maldives Cuisine

Premium WordPress Themes

As the Maldives comprises (much) more sea than land, fish (mainly tuna) have always been the most prominent element of local cuisine. However, as times have changed – with travelers from different parts of the world, new seasonings and vegetables were introduced in to the country. Thanks to this – Maldivian cuisine now comprises Arabic, Indian, Sri Lanka and Oriental flavours blended into a unique and flavourful cuisine. Curries are very popular on the islands and the most common is undoubtedly mas riha, which is cooked with tuna. Curries are usually eaten with steamed rice or with roshi, which is a kind of Maldivian Roshi.
