French Polynesia Etiquette

Premium WordPress Themes

French Polynesia is quite simply – laid back. The atmosphere is friendly and the people approachable and helpful. Causal dress is expected though if you find that you’re often the victim of sand flies and mosquitoes – then you’ll find long skirts or trousers immensely helpful. Tipping isn’t at all customary and the consumption of alcohol in public is prohibited. If you’re invited to a person’s home then it’s normal to take off your shoes upon entering and a simple handshake is fine for a greeting.

A popular saying in French Polynesia is “haere maru” which means quite simply “take it easy” – you should remember this and embrace it for your trip there.
