Brazilians like to touch

Brazilians like to touch

Brazilians like to touch. Whether that’s a kiss on the cheek to say hello, touching your arm or back when speaking or shaking hands – one or all of these will happen at least once – especially in liberal Rio. Dress conservatively when in the south and for the most part, but don’t be afraid of a little colour – especially in Rio or São Paulo. Tipping isn’t always needed, but you will note that many restaurants add 10% to the bill – in which case there’s no need to leave anything – unless you feel the service was exemplary.
