Borneo has great weather – all year round. You’ll find that temperatures linger between 27°C and 32°C for much of the year – humidity is high and much like the rest of the island – you’ll get intermittent rainfall for much of the year. The major distinction in weather patterns comes when the dry season turns into the wet season. Sarawak is affected the most with highest rainfall in January, while Sabah remains the same for much of the year – hot and at times, unpredictable. Head to Kinabalu national park, which due to its altitude is generally cooler than the rest of Sarawak – making it a nice travel option when the sun starts to get a little much.

The most rain-affected areas of Borneo are all in Sarawak and are generally concentrated inland – with some 250 rainy days a year. However, it’s not all bad – as with the rainy season comes less visitors – meaning that the jungle lodges, caves and national parks are all a little emptier in the wet season – which often leads to a much more personal experience for travellers to those areas.
