Mexico’s cosmopolitan capital has gone through something of a renaissance of late, with revamped public spaces and a fantastic restaurant and bar scene. Be sure to explore the UNESCO-listed old city and spend some time around Zocalo, the city’s main square – which incidentally is one of the world’s largest city squares – before strolling through the scenic streets and busy markets of Coyoacán. Don’t miss the Museum of Anthropology to gain an unbeatable insight in to Mexican culture and the exceptionally pretty neighbourhood of Xochimilco which is criss-crossed with canals and floating gardens and easily navigable by the colourful boats that line the waterways.
