Climb a mountain
Wat Phra Doi Suthep is an impressive mountain top temple close to Chiang Mai – climb the steps, explore the temple and receive a Sai Sin (sacred thread) bracelet for luck from the monks before taking a look back over the awe-inspiring vistas – take in the town of Chiang Mai below and the jungles that stretch over the horizon to Myanmar. Not too far away in Chiang Rai, Doi Tung Mountain offers an easy climb with beautiful views of both Myanmar and Thailand from the top, as well as the Wat Phra That Doi Tung temple.
Do something a little different
There are plenty of wonderful things to do in Thailand, and though there are many intriguing temples and ruins such as the stunning Wat Phra Kaew in Bangkok, the mysterious Wat Kudidao in Ayuttaya and the graceful Wat Chedi luang in Chaing Mai, there are none quite so unique as the Tiger Temple in Kanchanaburi. This forest temple is home to some beautiful countryside scenery and, as you might expect, several families of Indochinese Tigers. The monks here look after the animals and you can get up close and personal to them, and may even be surprised to find a tiger cub behind you as you walk.
