As with most countries, dress conservatively whilst visiting churches, temples and monasteries. At the very least, be sure to cover the skin, as many places of worship will not allow entry based on too much exposure. However, when out exploring the country it’s perfectly acceptable to wear adventure or outdoor gear – from parkas and hiking boots to cargo pants – depending on the weather of course. However, whilst eating in restaurants a neat casual look is preferred.

Bargaining is acceptable in markets and even with most taxi drivers, and to some extent even hotels, but be careful not to overdo it. If you find yourself pointing your camera at a woman, child or man in traditional attire, expect to pay a small tip – which has become customary as tourism has grown with the country.
